How much does a Consultant Cost? Since it's one of the first questions everyone asks, I thought I'd just give you my thoughts on this as a first Nutz & Boltz article. First, let me say, it should not cost anything! (in the long run) A good Consultant Visit must start with proper planning & organization prior to the visit. An outline should be constructed prior to the visit with goals laid out and the appropriate people available. Using the "Begin with the End in Mind" approach, desired results should be laid out in advance. Available JDC Projects can impact implementation time and shorten the time it takes for results. Many (MOST) of our projects are designed with Bottom Line Impact as the Goal and can begin to give payback immediately after implementation. An Operations Review is a vital tool to see how you run your business before any recommendations can be made. Once this is completed, we can devise an action plan for what improvements can be made. They can then, in turn, be prioritized based on ease of implementation as well as payback on the Bottom Line. As a simple example, we can use the Parts Purchase & Tech Restock Project. When we consider each incomplete call can cost easily an extra $100 in labor, every 10 incompletes we can avoid can save $1,000. Each time we do not purchase parts which have a Descending Usage, we save potentially throwing it away and writing off the purchase price. If we use the Service Territory Project and save ten hours of Travel Time through more efficient call routing, we have an extra ten hours of Customer Time to service machines, as well as lower travel costs. All of our Projects and Techniques are designed to give us ROI (Return on Investment) in as short a time as possible. The Name of the Game is Increased Profits and Customer Satisfaction! The Bottom Line, A Consultant Visit should not be considered a Cost, but an Investment in Improving the Bottom Line. |
